The West Virginia University Foundation honored donors whose planned gifts will provide for the future of the University.

The Irvin Stewart Society welcomed 40 new members during its 26th luncheon May 19 at Erickson Alumni Center hosted by WVU President Gordon Gee. Membership in the Society is given to those who include a gift provision in a will or revocable trust, create a life-income gift, designate an after-death gift of a retirement account, make checking, savings or stock accounts “payable upon death,” donate life insurance, or make a gift of real estate with a retained life interest benefiting WVU, WVU Potomac State College, WVU Tech at Beckley, or any other WVU-related entities.

“It is always such a joy to welcome new members into the Irvin Stewart Society,” said Matthew Clark, WVU Foundation executive director of planned giving. “We are honored that so many have included the WVU Foundation in their estate plans. Each planned gift represents a commitment to support the students and programs of West Virginia University for many years to come, and we are thankful that so many have chosen to be a part of the Irvin Stewart Society and the WVU family.”

The Society, created in 1992 by the WVU Foundation, was named after the University’s 13th president, Irvin Stewart. Currently, the Irvin Stewart Society boasts 1,500 members, with nearly 1,000 living members.
