WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s

“WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s is entering a new era, one shaped by vision, generosity, and a commitment to West Virginia children and families.”

In October 2025, entrepreneur and philanthropist Thomas Golisano made a transformational $28 million gift to support WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital. In recognition of this historic contribution, the hospital now proudly bears the name WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s.

Golisano’s gift will fuel innovation, expand pediatric services, and strengthen the hospital’s mission to deliver care to children across West Virginia and the surrounding region.

“Mr. Golisano’s gift is a powerful statement of belief in our mission and in the future of children’s health,” Michael A. Grace, M.B.A, Ed.D., F.A.C.H.E., president and CEO of West Virginia University Hospitals, said.

With this investment, WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s joins nine other hospitals across the country as part of the newly created Golisano Children’s Alliance, a first-of-its-kind national network of children’s hospitals dedicated to collaboration, inclusion, and innovation in pediatric care.

“Mr. Golisano’s generosity does more than support WVU Medicine Children’s; it brings us into an alliance of like-minded hospitals dedicated to improving outcomes for children everywhere,” Christopher Mascio, M.D., executive chair of WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s, said.

Golisano’s gift builds on a long foundation of philanthropic support that has shaped WVU Medicine Children’s into the institution it is today. The hospital opened its doors in September 2022, after three years of planning, fundraising, and construction. That milestone was made possible through the $60 million “Grow Children’s” campaign, community involvement, and more than 10,000 contributions from donors across West Virginia and beyond.

The 10-story, $215 million facility, home to more than 150 beds and specialty care, was designed to give children and families a space that inspires healing and comfort. Campaign co-chairs Steve Antoline and Jeff Hostetler, along with many individuals, businesses and alumni, played important roles in bringing that vision to life.

This early support laid the groundwork for today’s growth, ensuring WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s continues its mission of building healthier futures for children across the region.
