Dr. Tara Hulsey, WVU School of Nursing Dean and E. Jane Martin Endowed Professor, has established a $25,000 endowed scholarship fund to support non-traditional students enrolled in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
Students who enroll in the Accelerated BSN program must have already obtained a bachelor’s degree; therefore, many applicants have exhausted their financial aid options. For these non-traditional students, scholarship support can make a huge impact.
“Removing barriers for students pursing a bachelor’s degree in nursing is incredibly important to me,” Dean Hulsey said. “Many nurses, like me, were called to the profession. I am grateful to play a part in helping our students pursue their passion.”
The 18-month Accelerated BSN is a rigorous program that equips students for success upon graduation. For the last three years, the WVU School of Nursing’s ABSN graduates have earned a 100% first-time pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination—Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN).
Dean Hulsey’s scholarship, which will be awarded for the first time in Fall 2025, is available to West Virginia residents who are enrolled in the Accelerated BSN program with the WVU School of Nursing. The program is currently offered at two campus locations, including Morgantown and Bridgeport.
Scholarships like these are awarded via the WVU Foundation, the nonprofit organization that receives and administers private donations on behalf of the University.
