The WVU Cancer Institute invites community members to celebrate survivors, recognize loved ones, and spark hope for those in treatment Saturday, Oct. 18, at the annual Breast Cancer Walk at Milan Puskar Stadium.
Interested participants are encouraged to register in advance at wvubreastcancerwalk.com. Admission and all activities are free thanks to sponsors Hanna Premier Properties by Barbara Alexander, WVU Medicine, and Gilead Oncology.
The festivities will begin at 9 a.m. with breakfast, exhibits, and kids’ activities. At 10 a.m., cancer survivors will gather for a pink-laden photo shoot among the gold and blue of Mountaineer Field. The walk starts at 10:30 a.m., following brief opening remarks and an official kick-off.
Families can enter raffles, browse vendors, and meet special guests. There will also be giveaways, free T-shirts, childrens’ inflatables, and a “table-or-treat” event. Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes, and adults are invited to don their pink attire and accessories for the walk.
The event honors the legacy of the late Betty Puskar, a breast cancer survivor who contributed the founding donation for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center at the WVU Cancer Institute. Proceeds benefit the Betty Puskar Breast Care Enhancement Fund, which supports access to comprehensive care, educational tools, and technology aimed at the prevention, early detection, and treatment of breast cancer.
All registrants are invited to set up their own peer-to-peer fundraising page to encourage others to contribute to the cause in Puskar’s memory and spread awareness.
Visit wvubreastcancerwalk.com for information about the event, parking details, and ways to give. Interested sponsors can also contact Stephanie McCandless at smccandless@wvuf.org.
All gifts to the WVU Cancer Institute are made through the WVU Foundation, the nonprofit organization that receives and administers private donations on behalf of the University and its affiliated entities.
